Per the motortrend article on the Turbo 1LE
“The starting price of $30,995 is a performance bargain that could potentially turn the heads of hot-hatch buyers, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ’s surprising target market. That’s correct: The maker of some of the most famous examples of American muscle wants to attract Golf R, WRX STI, Focus RS, and Civic Type R buyers to the lineup. The Camaro is a little short on horsepower but has a lower starting price than the above four-doors. If it had competed in our !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the claimed 0-60 time would have fallen midpack. Furthermore, some potential hot-hatch buyers might appreciate the Turbo 1LE’s non-boy-racer look. Chevy could be onto something.”
This probably means any hope of a future Solstice type car is gone too but the Turbo 1LE sounds like a fun little bargain.

I suspect the number of people that can afford a Cruze overlapped with the number of people who want a car with a turbo is small. Overlap that again with people who cross-shop the other cars mentioned, and I suspect they would sell very few.

but a modern Thunderbird would be a CUV.
Most likely based on an Edge.

I would say so as it looks like they are purposely not giving us the proper hot hatch we want in either the Cruze or Sonic. Just the lame ass RS appearance trims. I dont think they will win over hot hatch buyers though. They tend to be faithful, and will only go to other hot hatches if they get something different. STi owners trading onto an RS and vice versa. No matter how turbo 4 this thing is, they are going to see Camaro first and foremost.

Stupid capitalists, complaining abo ut the lack of a Chevrolet hot hatch instead of training for world revolution.

if they would offer this package at this price as a four door, or a hatch I would be willing to sign the hell up. but apples to apples I’d take a Boostang.

It seems Chevy doesn’t know the hot hatch market...
4-doors and a hatch . These are things the Camaro doesn’t have.

The Camaro is the antithesis of a hot hatch; bad visibility, inefficient use of space, and RWD. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure this will be a great car, and some otherwise hot hatch buyers may end up with one but I’m not convinced it’s a reason to not offer a hot Cruze or sonic...

Agree completely. For example I’d love a Golf R, but a Camaro would meet approximately none of my needs.

There will never be another Solstice. Affordable convertibles are dead. There’s only three that I can think of in the U.S. market right now (Beetle, Fiata, Mini) that are under $30k, and that’s only if yo u want a complete stripper base model.

The Camaro is not a hot hatch, but it can be an alternative to one. Price, horsepower, size, options, weight (of the 4cyl version) are all comparable.

I was considering a challenger gt awd, but I just couldn't justify it compared to a hatch.
